Winter Education Intern

Job Overview: The Winter Education Intern contributes to a positive transformative guest experience through
supportive research and educational program design. The internship opportunity provides
practical experience in developing museum-based environmental and history educational
programming. The Winter Intern has the opportunity to work with all departments at Kingwood Center
Gardens, guests, and volunteers, gaining a broad understanding of how not-for-profit estate
garden operates. This part-time, paid internship opportunity is available to college students who have a
demonstrated knowledge of and interest in education, history and interpretation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaboratively research and interpret collection pieces within Gateway Gallery and Kingwood Hall
  • Research and build curriculum and lesson plans for our annual Kingwood Kids Summer Camp
    program (rising 1st-4th grade)
  • Oversee operations in the Peacock Playhouse
  • Assist with select Kingwood events, including Christmas at Kingwood, educational programs, and
    community outreach as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of continuous standing, sitting, or walking along with occasional stooping, bending, reaching, crouching
  • Must be able to move around garden in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
  • Possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Must be goal-oriented, flexible, and adaptable to potential unanticipated opportunities
  • Must be able to organize workflows to ensure necessary details are captured and enacted
  • Ability to prioritize work amongst competing set of tasks
  • Possess verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including effective presentation and problems solving skills
  • Ability to relate to, work with people of all ages, diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and provide leadership support as required for special events
  • Demonstrated ability with computers, Microsoft Office programs, social media platforms, and databases used for tracking organizational performance

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a college or university during the 2024-2025 school year
  • Candidates pursuing a degree in education is required
  • A focus in environmental/outdoor education or history/social studies is preferred
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must pass drug test
