Job Overview: 

Kingwood Center Garden’s Merchandise Associate ensures positive transformative shopping experience for each Garden Shop customer through properly receiving, processing, storing and retrieving for stocking high-quality garden shop merchandise.

The Merchandise Associate is responsible for the inventory management of the Garden & Gift Shop’s hard goods.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Processes Garden Shop hard good and plant inventories including preparing merchandise for ticketing, printing, and placement of tickets
  • Collaborates with Horticulture staff in the process of plant selection and ordering, and plant maintenance for Garden Shop
  • Conducts periodic merchandise inventory accounting in order to maintain accurate records and reporting within the POS system
  • Ensures merchandise inventory is properly organized, accessible, and secure
  • Assist in visual merchandising and maintaining the quality of retail displays
  • Assist customers in the Garden Shop, answering questions, processing sales, or loading items as needed
  • Supervises seasonal employees and volunteers
  • Attend workshops, seminars, and conferences when budget allows.
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of continuous standing, sitting, or walking along with occasional stooping, bending, reaching, crouching
  • Must be able to lift to 40 lbs occasionally
  • Must be able to move around garden in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
  • Possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Must be goal-oriented, flexible, and adaptable to potential unanticipated opportunities
  • Must be able to organize workflows to ensure necessary details are captured and enacted
  • Ability to prioritize work amongst competing set of tasks
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and volunteers
  • Possess verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including effective problems solving skills
  • Ability to related to work relate to people of all ages, diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities
  • Demonstrated ability with computers, Microsoft Office programs, point-of-sale and inventory tracking systems

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with point of sales software, visual merchandising, customer service, inventory management, communication, and a passion for sales
  • Minimum of High School Diploma
  • Previous experience working shipping/receiving retail operations preferred
  • Horticultural knowledge and hands on experience with plant selection, care, and maintenance is preferred
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must pass drug test
