APRIL
RED, WHITE & BLUE - PREPARING FOR THE MANSFIELD BICENTENNIAL
2008 is the year of the Mansfield Bicentennial and the city's colors are red, white, and blue. The city wants everyone in Mansfield to plant their gardens in these colors. The program will discuss the many annuals and perennials you can use both in the ground and in containers so you will be prepared to color your gardens red, white and blue for the Bicentennial.

CHILDREN'S PANSY POT
Create a fun container garden using pansies in an unusual container.. Different ideas will be shown for using pansies and how to care for them. Ages 5 & up.

IKEBANA - TRADITIONAL NARCISSUS STYLE
The traditional narcissus moribana style is a beautiful design featuring water and narcissus (daffodil) blooms and foliage. A demonstration of the design will be shown and then students will create their own to take home. Students should bring a 12 " or larger, flat, round or oval container and a needlepoint holder. All other materials will be supplied

CHILDREN'S TEA FOR MOM & STORIES
Create a beautiful Mother's Day floral arrangement in a china tea cup to give to your mother or grandmother. Students will design their own arrangement using fresh flowers and a china tea cup and saucer. Workshop will begin with stories about mothers. Ages 5 and up.

MAY GARDEN WALK
On this leisurely walk on the Kingwood grounds, we will look at a wide selection of spring blooming plants that are in flower. Tulips will be featured throughout the grounds, along with many other spring flowering bulbs, perennials, trees and shrubs.

PAVE FLORAL DESIGN
Before the invention of floral foam, moist sand was used in containers to support the stems of the flowers and foliages. A styke of floral design called Pave was done in this media. It uses flowers and foliages in tightly placed groups to form a design of colors and textures as you would see in Pave diamonds. It is often done on a bed of sphagnum ,moss or other foliage material, and used as a centerpiece for a dining or coffee table. A demonstration will show different ideas and students will create their own to take home.

BICENTENNIAL CONTAINER GARDEN
Red, white and blue are this summers colors to support the Mansfield Bicentennial and the class will focus mainly on planting a container garden to feature these colors. If not for the Bicentennial, then for our country. Students will create their own container garden to take home.

DOUBLE RING TOPIARY
Topiary, the art of shaping plants into ornamental or fanciful shapes by training and pruning, has long been part of the American landscape and decorative tradition. Gardeners have trimmed plants for centuries and today many people make smaller container grown topiaries out of plants for their patios and indoor gardens. The workshop will cover the different types of topiaries, plants which can be used and how to care for them. Students will make their own double ringed topiary to take home.

CHILDREN'S BICENTENNIAL BASKET OF ANNUALS
2008 is the Bicentennial for Mansfield and the city's colors are red, white and blue. Students will plant a basket to use on the patio or other garden area using a selection of red, white and blue annuals. Ages 5 and up.
