Kingwood was originally given as a gift to the community in 1953. Since that time, Kingwood has benefited from the gift of community, as it’s brought hundreds of people together willing to share their energy and talent to help preserve this cherished space. Simply put, Kingwood wouldn’t be what it is today without our volunteers.
If you would like to become a part of the Kingwood Volunteer Community, please look over a sampling of the positions listed below. Volunteers may choose weekly, monthly, seasonal or one-time opportunities.
With over 40 acres of historic grounds to maintain, our horticultural staff is eager for a helping hand. If you have some gardening experience, can tolerate moderate to heavy physical activity and love being outside, then become a garden volunteer!
Garden Volunteers typically work on a weekly basis and are assigned to a lead gardener. It’s a great way to make new friends and get a dose of natural therapy.
Kingwood Hall Hosts/Hostess
Kingwood’s historic mansion is now open 7 days a week for self-guided tours. As an ambassador, you will greet guests, answer basic questions, and help create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We have visitors from all 50 states and volunteers love getting to know everyone who comes through our doors. This position is great for people who like social interaction but also enjoy quietude and working alone.
Love history? Have a passion for educating others and sharing the magical experience of Kingwood? Become a Kingwood Tour Guide! Our tour guides lead multiple garden and/or mansion tours during the summer months. Training will be provided.
Since becoming a wedding venue in 2012 Kingwood has quickly become one of the areas premier wedding destinations. Wedding Volunteers help make the couple’s day as special as it can be. Positions range from golf-cart driver to mansion host/hostess to liaisons. If you would like to play a part in someone’s garden wedding dream, then sign-up for one of our many weddings this season.
Want to support Kingwood, but don’t enjoy the heat and toil of the gardens, help our administrative assistant with clerical work: mailing, filing, organizing. Office Assistants are called and scheduled as needed.
Kingwood hosts several large events throughout the year which rely on volunteer assistance. If you’ve ever visited Kingwood at Christmas or wound your way around the thousands of flickering pumpkins at Pumpkin Glow, then you understand how much goes into our special events. Positions are announced as needed.
As a Kingwood Volunteer you will be eligible for many additional benefits such as: free admission, complimentary workshops, discounts at the greenhouse, an annual “Thank You” luncheon as well as various other volunteer events throughout the year. Volunteer benefits are based on hours of service and change depending on the level of service one has attained.
There are jobs available for anyone, even those who have limitations in mobility, time or gardening expertise! You will work closely with a staff member who leads the effort, assigns duties and provides guidance and expertise. Most jobs are typically done on a weekly schedule.
